Art of Kinetik Hedonist Yacht

Studio Art of Kinetik produces custom luxury wooden yachts. Their the most recent addition to the collection – “Hedonist” – is a work of art and a synonym for comfort and convenience. This 63-foot motoryacht can cruise at speeds up to 40 knots. The exterior is cloaked in fine mahogany with glass and metal accents and its design is created with no seams, it’s so clean that no screw or piece of plastic aren’t visible to the eye. The interior is as refined and detailed as a luxury hotel. It seems like Art of Kinetik has a good team of designers, naval architects and engineers.

Luxury Yacht Concept “Amare”

Another example of sophisticated yacht design we want to show you today. Luxury Amare yacht concept was created by industrial designer Dawid Dawod. “Stunning wood accents are met with polished handles, steering wheel, knobs and other fixtures in rich detail to create an elegant yet masculine aesthetic. For the thrill seeker inside, it also comes standard with a 350 HP water-jet engine.
The Amare’s classic craftsmanship combines with new technology, using rigid inflatable boat (RIB) technology to achieve its aggressive, dynamic look. Designed with human boat behavior in mind, the Yacht’s architecture also includes a fully functioning kitchen on the outer deck, sofas for relaxation, a deck for sunbathing and a canvas top for bad weather. Another characterizing design element of the boat are the rails that follow the length, functioning as handles as passengers walk and also as holders for the canvas top.” Take a look!

Wider 42´ Yacht fitted with steering wheel inspired by the world of Formula 1

The luxury motor yacht Wider 42’, developed by well known Italian builder Wider Yachts and designed by respected Fulvio De Simoni, provides a top performance, thanks to her innovative technological solutions, starting with the special structure of the steering wheel, openly inspired by the world of Formula 1.
This mould-breaking solution enables the Wider 42´ yacht to incorporate a large number of on-board controls in a single tool and notably reduce the equipment on the helm station. The multifunctional steering wheel, developed in association with Acson Marine-Naviop and Tastitalia technology and featuring the aesthetics of studio Box 104, has a built-in multiview display similar to that of a single seater boat, showing all the information necessary for sailing. Entirely touchscreen, it makes it possible to steer the yacht with everything in sight. The central body with the display and buttons is fixed and only the steering wheel turns. This system makes it possible to manage the yacht at all times, and the graphic layout of the messages makes them immediately understandable. How much each engine is being used is always displayed, as are the water temperature and oil pressure values. Users can read the consumption, range, the state of the throttle or rudder angle or look at images from the bow telecamera, switch on/off the navigation and cockpit lights. The flaps and trim of the Arneson transmissions are adjusted using the side buttons. A quick guide is also offered, for eventual manual operations on the side extensions.

The steering wheel has an essential helm station which includes a GPSMap® 7012 Garmin chart plotter equipped with a 12.1 inch touchscreen display that controls all the propulsion systems, and the new G-Motion™ technology, which allows for extraordinary smoothness when passing from one screen to another. In this way, the steering wheel becomes an out and out on-board computer which facilitates navigation – considerably increasing the manoeuvrability of the yacht – just as it helps manage Formula 1 cars during each and every stage of a competition.

“As a great fan of Formula 1,” declares Tilli Antonelli, President of Wider “I’ve always been interested in the evolution of the technology used in car races, and indeed took inspiration from this whilst designing the multifunctional steering wheel which so strongly characterises the Wider 42’, contributing added value in terms of the functionality and control of the yacht.”

Planetsolar is the first solar-powered boat around the world

The first ever entirely solar-powered ship to circle the globe embarked on this tremendous journey that has taken it through 28 countries, 11 seas and 3 oceans two years ago and lasted a whopping 585 days. Reportedly named the MS Tûranor Planetsolar, its journey started on the 27th of September 2010, at 2:00 p.m. and ended at 2:21 p.m., in Monaco.
The ship has started a new journey during this month, touching at famous ports of the Mediterranean Sea, like Spain’s Barcelona and Mallorca, as well as Cagliari, on the island of Sardinia. The crew of this massive sailing wonder says that it’s actually “more than a ship”, now being a “mobile battery”. It can power up concerts and lightshows, can hold exhibitions and do all sorts of activities that other ships cannot, in every port it docks in.

The name Tûranor was picked from the fabled Lord of the Rings book, by J. R. R. Tolkien, where it stands for “the power of the sun”. Built as a catamaran, it measures 115 feet in length (35 meters) and presents itself covered in 537 square meters (5,780 square feet) of photovoltaic panels (a total of 38,000 individual solar cells feed 6 huge blocks of Li-Ion batteries) with 18.8% yield, all the ensemble generating around 260,000 kWh of electricity over the so-planned 60,006 kilometer voyage (37,000 nautical miles).

GHOST is the world’s first super-cavitating watercraft

There are a lot of new inventions and weird man-made gadgets or machines that are truly amazing and stunning in all the ways possible. Such a thing would be combining an attack helicopter and a stealth jet fighter. Actually, the guys at Juliet Marine Systems from New Hampshire have really done it – they’ve designed the Ghost marine platform.
Possibly being destined for US Navy’s use, the project has been developed in complete privacy, while the manufacturers assure us that the vessel is invisible to radars, while also being more economically efficient and a lot faster. They also declare that it’s the first super-cavitating watercraft in the world. This principle refers to the process of surrounding an item with air so that it goes faster and smoother through water, downing the friction coefficient. The main structures that assure this to the Ghost are the two submerged buoyant tubular foils. The particular system used here is represented by the fact that when the boat’s gas turbines propel it forward, the mass of water it passes through is deflected outward at the front of each foil – this creates the cavity we were talking about. All these drastically reduce the friction between the hull and the environment, considering that friction in air is 900 times less significant than in water. Not yet destined for heavy naval fights, these vessels could be used as patrol vehicles around the perimeter of naval fleets or as light protection for commercial vessels from pirates.

The Mercier-Jones hovercraft was inspired by sports cars

The Mercier-Jones Concept pictured on this page is a futuristic yet modern hovercraft concept, based on the high end supercars of today. It reportedly is a lot easier to maneuver, environmentally friendly and more silent than any other hovercraft of today.
In addition, given the almost non-existent maneuverability of these machines, they have also put together a patent-pending directional control system which will supposedly enable the craft to brake and steer similarly to a car. At a closer approach this is due to the fact that the front, side mounted fans provide fine tuned control in reverse, lateral and forward directions, with independent control over each side, which enables advanced maneuverability.

In solidarity to other machinery industries like automotive, aerospace and marine, Mercier-Jones Concept will be crafted from high end, lightweight materials, like marine plywood, fiberglass, carbon fiber and aluminum. But, due to modern manufacture techniques and existing technologies, we shouldn’t reportedly expect this thing to come at a very high price.

This 2,700 HP Corvette powerboat costs $1.7 million

The 2012 ZR4 MTI was recently released by Corvette, featuring a designer trailer and a speed boat, all brought together for a price of $1.7 million. After their introduction in the car-boat combo industry with their red catamaran, the Corvette designers have now presented this futuristic version, which comprises an aerodynamic design, carbon fiber and extreme technology.
The body was conceived in such a way that weight was the most non-needed factor. That is the reason for the usage of a high quantity of carbon fiber. It was also designed to be as aero-dynamic as possible, as well as keeping the sharp look of the powerful Corvette car; good examples for this are the multitude of parts that belong to the car, including the head- and taillights.

The vehicle is propelled by two twin Mercury engines, each of developing around 1350 HP. This can bring the total of 6 passengers a huge adrenaline rush, along with the 8000 W power music system. The designers have also thought about offering a more facile access into the boat, so, the vehicle features a sliding door instead of a ceiling.

The price includes the tow which itself can be used as a trailer. Details like engine flush system, power washer, Apple TV, ground LED lights are also included.

AquaStar2 AS2

AquaStar scooters in Florida have developed a pair of recreational submersibles which both offer ease of use and relative affordability when compared with other undersea vessels.

The two-person AquaStar2 AS2 is based on the smaller, single seat Aquastar1 AS1. Both subs share a similar design, but the AS2 has an additional seat and an extended helmet.

The AS2 offers scuba diving-like capabilities, but without certification, no cumbersome attached gear, and no experience required - especially if you're the passenger.

The AquaStar2 AS2 can dive to around 12 meters (40 ft), and achieve a top speed of 3.1 mph (5 km/h). The batteries last around 2 hours, although the air supply will need changing after 1 hour and 10 minutes. If for any reason the electrical system should fail, a backup system - using the compressed air tank - can bring the sub to the surface quickly and safely.

The easy to use handlebars offer control over direction, depth, and speed.
Because the AquaStar AS2 is an open submersible, the pilot and/or passenger can leave the sub, swim around freely to investigate things more closely, and then return to the vehicle for more air.

AquaStar are marketing their scooters mainly at the tourist and resort markets. Although they could be just as easily operated as a personally-owned luxury toy.
